Mikkeli to host the Finnish round of Baltic Rally Trophy 2017

03.12.2016 / Minna Hänninen

In 30th of November the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) published the calendar for the coming year which meat that city of Mikkeli will host the first ever Baltic Rally Trophy event in Finland.

Finland is already known for two FIA rallies: the Finnish round of World Rally Championship (Neste Rally Finland) and Historic Rally Championship (Lahti Historic Rally).

In 2017 the second round of the Finnish Rally Championship, Vaakuna-Rally, is honoured to be a part of the new regional championship initiated by FIA. Points in this series are collected during different rallies among Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and now also in Finland.

Winners of the four-wheel and front-wheel driven classes will have an opportunity to participate in the final event taking place in central Europe. During this final competition, the winners of various regions will compete to find out the winner of European Rally Trophy.

Rally Executive of the Finnish Automobile Sport Federation AKK-Motorsport, Henrik Frank, is very pleased with the upcoming cooperation:

- It´s great that we’ve got this opportunity to start a cooperation with the Baltic countries at such a high level. Hopefully this cooperation which begins in Mikkeli, open the gates to a wider interaction between sports federations, organizers and competitors of different countries.

Tomi Jääskeläinen, the Clerk of the Course for the FRC event, hopes the event will see high number of entries next year.

- We are proud to be a part of this high-level cooperation and we are looking forward to next February. We are pleased to welcome all competitors to come and see our spectacular rally!

FRC Vaakuna-Rally is one of the seven events in Finnish Rally Championship and it will be driven in 17th and 18th of February in 2017. The event takes place in the city of Mikkeli in Southern Savonia, Finland.

There will be nine special stages, two on Friday and seven on Saturday. The total number of special stage kilometres is about 130. The rally starts on Friday evening with a super special stage in the local trotting track near Mikkeli.
