Finnish Rally Championship calendar for the 2025 season revealed

20.06.2024 / Finnish Rally Championship / Communications

The Finnish Rally Championship will once again feature seven rounds in 2025, maintaining its traditional format with three events in the winter season and four in the summer season.

Next year's calendar offers a mix of traditional rallies, lesser-known events, and one completely new host location. The season also includes two 60th anniversary jubilee events.

The season kicks off on January 17-18 in Kuopio, a relatively new addition to the championship, having hosted two rounds already in the 2020s in the capital of the Northern Savonia region.

The traditional Arctic Lapland Rally in Rovaniemi, which has taken the second spot in the series this year, will celebrate a significant milestone on January 31-February 1, marking its 60th edition. Remarkably, this will be the 60th consecutive running of the event without interruption.

Savonlinna will host the winter season finale on March 7-8. This is the only completely new rally of the season. Although the area has hosted rounds of the Historic Rally Trophy in recent years, it will still be a new challenge for many.

The summer season opens, as it did this year, with the SM Länsirannikon Rally in Turku on May 23-24. Turku hosted the first joint event between the Finnish and Estonian championships this year. Negotiations for the Estonian championship's participation next year are progressing well, with both parties expressing interest in continuing the collaboration.

On June 13-14, the series returns to Kouvola, one of the most traditional host cities in the championship. However, it will be the first visit to Kymenlaakso in three years, making it a new experience for many younger competitors.

The penultimate round of the season will be held in Lahti on August 22-23, in the same fashion as this season. Dubbed the "Rally Super Weekend," it features both the current Finnish Championship round and the rounds for the European Historic Rally Championship and the Finnish Historic Rally Trophy.

Seinäjoki will host the season finale on September 26-27. Known as one of the most traditional locations in the Finnish Rally Championship, the event has traditionally been organized by Pohjanmaaralli ry. Next year, the event will be organized by Etelä-Pohjanmaa Autosport Club, celebrating its 60th anniversary.

The calendar formation is a two-step process: The FIA member, Finnish autosports national sporting authority AKK's Rally Committee decides on the core dates each year, and the series promotion negotiates with organizers and hosts. Mika Heinonen, the promoter of the Finnish Rally Championship, is pleased with the upcoming season's calendar.

"The 2025 season looks very interesting in terms of the calendar. Especially with the jubilee events, there will certainly be some surprises for the audience. It's great to see the Finnish Rally Championship providing such a platform for the highest level of Finnish rallying and that our member clubs are eager to organize and commit to hosting the series rounds well in advance."

For the 2024 season, the Finnish Rally Championship continues after a couple of months' summer break with the Future SM Rally in Lahti on August 23-24.
