Estonian Rally Championship will visit Finnish Rally Championship in 2024 - The cooperation between the Finnish and Estonian motorsport federations is growing

28.11.2023 / Finnish Rally Championship / Communications

During the fall, discussions began between the Finnish ASN, AKK, and the Estonian Autosport Association, EAL, about whether one of the Estonian Rally Championship events could possibly take place in Finland in conjunction with the Finnish Rally Championship.

The discussions went on in a very constructive and positive spirit the whole time and in the end, Länsirannikon Ralli in Turku, which will be contested in May 2024, was selected as the host of the first ever rally with Finnish and Estonian Rally Championships

Kuldar Sikk, Sports Director of the EAL, is very pleased that the idea which has been worked on for a long time is finally coming to fruition:

"This issue has been talked about more or less for almost ten years, it's great that it is finally happening. In general, it is important that the federations of different countries, especially the neighbors, cooperate, this way we can be stronger together."

AKK's Sporting Executive, Henrik Frank, is also excited and satisfied that such an opportunity was built:

"The issue has been semi-seriously discussed every now and then, but maybe things have moved forward quite concretely in the summer. We had really fruitful discussions with our Estonian colleagues and it certainly helped that interest arose from that direction in coming to compete in Finland. I see a lot of potential here for the development of cooperation in the coming future as well"

The chairman of the organizing committee, Markku Suvanto, is happy that the cooperation between the countries bore fruit and that Turku gets to host the first joint competition between the two championships.

"We warmly welcome Estonian competitors to drive here. There will be some changes to the arrangements due to this, but nothing too challenging. I'm looking forward to seeing how the best national rally stars from both nations face each other on the fast and challenging roads of the Turku region."

Länsirannikon Ralli opens the summer season of the Finnish Rally Championship on the 24th-25th May.
